Rain Harvesting
What is Rain Harvesting?

Rain Harvesting is simply the collection and storage of rainwater for use at a later time. This maybe as basic as using a water butt in your garden. However, due to the recent changes in climate and periods of water shortage, we need to think in terms of larger storage capacity.
Rain Harvesting

Current systems capture the rain falling onto any roof by making use of the existing guttering and downpipe system.

This water is then delivered via a filter to a storage tank for later use.

Any excess once the storage is filled is returned to the drainage system as before. Tanks are often underground but if space allows they may me sited above ground. When required, the stored water is delivered via a pump to a supply point.

  • Most plants prefer rainwater as it is free from chlorine. It typically has very low hardness levels and has a balanced pH

  • Water companies ban the use of hosepipe's and restrict the use of water for various activities during periods of water shortage, this includes watering the garden, washing the car even filling the kids paddling pool etc

  • Water demand has started to exceed supply

  • The cost of supplying water is increasing and water metering is becoming widespread

  • Using untreated rainwater removes the need for chemical treatment and the energy required to produce clean water of drinking quality as supplied through the mains. This reduces carbon dioxide emissions and pollution

  • Over extraction from rivers to supply the mains water system has resulted in damage to wetlands and to trout rivers. The south-east of England is the worse effected

  • Water demand will increase due to planned future house building programmes

  • Water is a valuable resource and should not be taken for granted

  • Rainwater is exactly what your garden needs and is delivered to your door free of charge

Dont take water for granted
